Features and Functions
Things in the second chapter get even tougher. Six months after the Green Poison outbreak, the civil war between survivors and villainous scavengers became a battle for the last safe bastions. The Division 2 is still a multiplayer TPS in which you can explore the world solo, with 3 partners, or unite with up to 8 players to commit raids. Gameplay mainly consists of cover-based shootouts that hardly depend on tactics. You can also use drones turrets and shields.
It’s hard to feel yourself a king of the hill in The Division 2 because of challenging combat and vast, dangerous open-world terrain of Washington stone jungles. Fortunately, you can reveal safe-houses and fast-travel around the city to avoid unwanted clashes. The city also has Dark Zones that have a separate progression system that includes RZ XP, and various perks for matches in such areas. When you complete the story mode and reach level 30, the city splits up into world tiers that allow you to unlock more difficult challenges and level up with a new progression system.
The whole thing started when New York was attacked by the environmental terrorist, who used the so-called Green Poison that infected people with severe smallpox. Territories of Washington were torn apart by 3 factions, including The Division. This grouping was created by the evacuated government to suppress criminal activity and explore the disease to help scientists find a cure.
Interface
The Division 2 was created with the Ubisoft’s proprietary Snowdrop engine that was created specifically for The Division series. It provides one of the most detailed open world terrain ever seen in video games. Sometimes it feels so vast and lonely like you got lost in an unknown city, but the overall balance manages to keep you walking and exploring this strange place.
Conclusion
The first chapter was impressing, and this one is even better. It’s a unique combination of a AAA TPS with a multiplayer open world. It’s a game where numerous mechanics collide in naturally and produce a tough, realistic challenge.
